Mari Sloan commented on Pedro M. Rosario Barbosa's blog post The Bible from an Evolutionary Standpoint - Part IHi, I'm a writer and activist. I live in Puerto Rico, and presently I am doing a PhD in History, my Bachelor and MA degrees were in Philosophy
I'm a deeply devout Roman Catholic, but hold liberal points of view regarding certain issues. I have adopted the views of Liberation Theology, which struggles for social change for the poor and the oppressed. I'm also a partisan of Evolutionary Christianity, which integrates both realms, the spiritual and the material through an evolutionary view of the cosmos.
In the political arena, I am also a left-wing progresist, I support mostly the ideas of the Progressive Utilization Theory (PROUT) movement.
I actively struggle for Puerto Rico's independence from the United States. My most active causes have to do with Copyright reform, and the promotion of free software ("free" as in "free speech", not as in "free beer"). I try my best to use only free software. I use GNU/Linux as my operative system, although I'm open to using other operative systems such as FreeBSD, PCBSD, or other free OSs. I also struggle for the cause of freedom in cyberspace and contribute information under Creative Commons licenses.
I promote the teaching of Neo-Darwinian evolution and I am against the teaching any sort of Creationism or Intelligent Design in science courses. Even in the realm of theology, I consider all forms of Creationism and most forms of ID to be inherently harmful. Yet, I don't regard Creationism or ID to be science. I'm a member of the National Center for Science Education.
I'm mostly loving and caring, I support my friends whenever I can, and if you ever need a friend, you have one in me. If you wish to add me to your messenger you can use pedrorosario@hotmail.com (MSN - Never write me to this address) or prosario_2000 (Yahoo!). I don't use any of these messengers, I only use clones of them to communicate (aMSN and Pidgin respectively). Please, don't expect me to have every "cool" feature your messenger has. Sorry, I don't use Skype. Please, if you want to add me to your messengers and I accept you, identify yourselves when I ask who you are.If you wish to add me in FaceBook you can do so: http://www.facebook.com/prosario2000

"Religions Never Change"
"Religions never change", said a dear friend and adopted sister of mine when I posted something about using the best aspects of religious practice for peace. I know what she meant. Religions have been used very often to manipulate people, to make them act unethically, even engaging wars in the name of God. She, as a pacifist, rejects all of…

In 2006 I published this book for the first time, and I'm proud to say that this is the fourth edition of The Relation between Formal Science and Natural Science. In this book, I use Edmund Husserl's philosophy of logic and mathematics, as well as his semantic doctrine, in order to understand the nature of formal sciences. It posits the existence of ideal meanings and mathematical objects, which are themselves a condition of…

I looked around my house to find things I'd started and hadn't finished, so I finished off a bottle of Merlot, a bottle of Chardonnay, a bodle of Baileys, a butle of wum, tha mainder of Valiuminun scriptins, an a box a chocletz. The end of the day inspires many feelings, different for each of us. Post your stories and poems below, as…
While we were assembling Issue 4 of U Magazine, Ralphy sent me a story he'd recently written and asked me to edit it for him. I did so, checked the editing with Mari, and got Ralphy's approval of the resulting manuscript. We then included the first half of the story in Issue 4; some members of ME will already have read it.
I now attach the whole story, A Toast to You, in its author's memory. It's typical of his slightly surreal wit and imagination - a lovely piece of…
Speak soft your words my love
I hear music in your voice
tender kisses from thy lips
a warmth that fuels in me desires
bursting at the seams to be quenched.
Enter into me, slow and sweet
our bodies measuring in heat and motion
we come together, our essence
uniting with the universe
until I am left helpless
a vulnerable, quivering mass
explosions of pure joy escapes my eyes.
Kiss away the tears my love
hold me tight until the Sandman finds me
then leave me to wake in the light and wither away
again, a vulnerable, quivering mass
with tears of unspeakable ache escaping my eyes
and a hollow that once held my heart
gone now, taken away with the dawn
stolen sometime in the night when you left
and went home to her.
Each night I die a little more
dreaming of what can never be
as I have found you
just a little too late.
